Llandudno Evening Meditation Class

These classes introduce the art of meditation and offer advice on how to apply Buddha’s teachings to solve our daily problems. The classes begin with a relaxing guided meditation, followed by an inspiring and practical talk and then another guided meditation. Finally there will be time for questions and discussion.

The classes  are presented as a short series over several weeks, but each class is self-contained – so you can drop in any time you like. Everyone is welcome regardless of belief;  you do not need to be Buddhist to attend. Suitable for everyone, including absolute beginners.

The class is led by Kadam Mike Garside, the Resident Teacher of Kalpabhadra Kadampa Buddhist Centre.  Kadam Mike has been studying and practising meditation for over 40 years under the guidance of Venerable Geshe Kelsang Gyatso.

Series Two

Dealing with daily difficulties

Life is difficult. The times when everything flows the way we want it to are definitely the exception. Often people do not cooperate with our wishes. Often our body, especially as we get older, refuses to cooperate. Every day small things go wrong, and sometimes disaster and tragedy affects our life. We are living in an increasingly difficult world, both on a global level and personal level. Sometimes we can change things, but often there is little we can do externally. But we can always learn to respond inwardly in a calmer, kinder and more positive way. In the long term, this inner change actually makes more of a difference than any external change could make.

Series Three

Beginning and making progress in meditation

Meditation is a method to make our mind peaceful and positive. Simple meditations like focussing on our breathing can make us feel calm and relaxed – but only for a short while. To really become a more peaceful, kinder, wiser and happier person we need to learn to look at our life in a different way, change our priorities and to orientate our life in a spiritual direction. To help us do this Buddha taught a cycle of contemplations called Lamrim, or the Stages of the Path to Enlightenment, which serve to transform our mind from its limited, self-centred and often unhappy state into the infinitely blissful and altruistic enlightened mind. This series of classes is an introduction to this cycle.
