Wrexham

These classes introduce the art of meditation and offer advice on how to apply Buddha’s teachings to solve our daily problems. The classes begin with a relaxing guided meditation, followed by an inspiring and practical talk and then another guided meditation. Finally there will be time for questions and discussion.

The classes  are presented as a short series over several weeks, but each class is self-contained – so you can drop in any time you like. Everyone is welcome regardless of belief;  you do not need to be Buddhist to attend. Suitable for everyone, including absolute beginners.

The class is led by Kadam Mike Garside, the Resident Teacher of Kalpabhadra Kadampa Buddhist Centre, Llandudno..  Kadam Mike has been studying and practising meditation for over 40 years under the guidance of Venerable Geshe Kelsang Gyatso.

Series One

The Big Picture – the Buddhist World View

Where do we come from? What happens after we die? Why do things happen? Is there a way to go beyond suffering and pain forever? These are big questions, and how we answer them for ourselves will impact on how we lead our lives. In this six week series we will look at Buddha’s answers to these questions. Buddha did not expect his students to believe blindly whatever he taught. Instead he encouraged them to have an open mind, think about the teachings clearly and logically, and practice whatever made sense to them. In this series we will explore these ideas, with particular emphasis on how understanding them correctly has an immensely beneficial effect on our lives.

  • January 6th Buddha’s first teaching – the Four Noble Truths
  • January 20th Reincarnation
  • January 27th The Law of Karma
  • February 3rd Is there anything we can really rely on?

Series Two

Dealing with daily difficulties

Life is difficult. The times when everything flows the way we want it to are definitely the exception. Often people do not cooperate with our wishes. Often our body, especially as we get older, refuses to cooperate. Every day small things go wrong, and sometimes disaster and tragedy affects our life. We are living in an increasingly difficult world, both on a global level and personal level. Sometimes we can change things, but often there is little we can do externally. But we can always learn to respond inwardly in a calmer, kinder and more positive way. In the long term, this inner change actually makes more of a difference than any external change could make.

  • February 24th Outer problems and inner problems
  • March 3rd Unconditional acceptance: the starting point for real change
  • March 17th Why are people so difficult?
  • March 23rd Why we need difficulty
  • March 31st The seeds of a world beyond pain

Everyone is welcome to join our meditation classes. People attend for many reasons—some to find peace from stress or anxiety, others to deepen their understanding of meditation and Buddhist teachings, or simply to enjoy a friendly, like-minded community.

Each class includes guided meditations, a practical talk on applying Buddhist wisdom to daily life, and time for reflection or questions. No previous experience is needed.

Classes are self-contained, so you can come to any session that suits you (except the Foundation Programme, which requires enrolment). After each class, the teacher is available for a chat or to answer questions.

You don’t need any special clothing. All classes are seated on chairs, with cushions available for those who prefer. Most people find it comfortable to wear loose-fitting clothes that allow easy breathing and relaxation.

There are two ways to attend classes: pay-as-you-go or through a Centre Card membership.

Pay-as-you-go lets you pay for each class individually. You can still enjoy discounts for booking a series or early-bird rates for weekend courses.

If you attend regularly, the Centre Card is the most economical option. Membership starts from £20 per month, with three levels depending on how often you attend. There’s no fixed commitment—you can change or cancel anytime.

All fees and memberships directly support the centre’s charitable activities, helping to keep meditation classes accessible to everyone.
